A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE NE METRO CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP OF ATLANTA
Pastors
Tony and Sandra Cavener were married October 3, 1981 after both were gloriously born again through the power of the Lord Jesus.
Tony was at the time General Manger of KJIL-FM radio in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, a contemporary Christian music station
that was a forerunner of many of the current Christian Music formats of today. Both Tony and Sandra were
ordained into the ministry through the Association of Vineyard Churches in 1988 after serving in
pastoral capacities in several churches since 1982.
Tony and
Sandra were used of the Lord in the late 1980’s to minister in an apostolic and prophetic mode to several churches in
the Southeastern United States. They helped to lay new foundations and to set in order existing works as
well as helping as church planters in the founding of the Oklahoma City Vineyard.
Through a prophetic vision
the Lord called them to Atlanta from Oklahoma City in 1991. They served as associate pastors in the Atlanta
Vineyard from 1991 to 1994 with Pastor Johnny Crist, who married them in 1981 while he was serving as an associate pastor
at Metro Church in Edmond Oklahoma.
In 1994 the winds of the Toronto Blessing were beginning
to blow and Tony and Sandy received the call to plant a new church in the NE area of the Atlanta metropolitan area.
With the blessing of Pastor Johnny Crist they planted the NE Metro Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Atlanta.
With a handful of people they began the new church in December of 1994.
In 1996 the church left the Vineyard Association of Churches and became the NE Metro Christian
Fellowship of Atlanta. This was to facilitate a greater freedom to pursue the renewal that
was breaking out all over the world in the mid and late nineties and to pursue the call to become the prophetic people the
Lord was leading the church toward. It was at this time the Lord lead the NE Metro to embrace the ministry
of prayer and intercession at new and deeper levels. The church has seen many breakthroughs in the area
of prophetic intercession from 1996 to the present time.
Over the
years the church has related with the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship and has a friendship
with John and Carol Arnott. David and Janice Van Cronkite of Blood-n-Fire ministries
are friends of this ministry as well. The prophetic backgrounds of Tony and Sandy include Prophet
Bob Jones, John Paul Jackson, the Kansas City Fellowship, and Jim Goll
along with others.
Sandra
Cavener was one of the keynote speakers at the 1997 Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship’s Women’s
Conference and she has been involved in planning and participating with many women’s conferences.
Her passion currently is with the next generation and she has been fervently crying out for the young people since
the Columbine tragedy. Sandra was touched mightily at a Global Harvest Ministries conference in Nashville
when she saw Karen Wheaton and The Chosen in a workshop. She was overwhelmed at the anointing on this group
and was drawn to the ministry of Karen Wheaton and The Ramp. Sandra has taken
our youth numerous times to Hamilton Alabama to experience this fresh and powerful ministry to the next generation!
Tony and Sandra have traveled
and ministered internationally in Canada, Costa Rica, and the UK.
Tony has also ministered in the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Australia.
However since 9/11 the Lord has had Tony and Sandra and the NE Metro Christian Fellowship focused on interceding and
operating as prophetic watchmen over this nation, crying out for justice and righteousness to be
restored. The ministries of Chuck Pierce, Dutch Sheets, and Lou Engle have been very strategic for the
church during this time and continue to be.
As the
Apostolic transformation continues to unfold through the ministry of C. Pete Wagner
and others, the NE Metro Christian Fellowship desires to be in step with what the Lord is doing in this very critical hour.
The Issacar anointing is being released to the prophets and the vision of the Kingdom of God is increasing as never
before in redemptive history.
Recently we have responded
to the invitation of Apostle/Prophet Chuck Pierce of Glory of Zion Ministries to connect with them
as a Church of Zion. We feel
a strong agreement with the call on Chuck’s life and ministry and are excited to be associated with this ministry that
has been such a blessing to the church in this hour.
As a church
we recently participated with Lou Engle and “07.07.07 The Call Nashville”.
We were blessed to have 7 of our men participate as members of The Gideon Army as “shofar
trumpeters” who blew the shofars at the end of The Call Nashville when Ray Hughes called for
the “new sound” to come forth out of Nashville and the South into this nation. We were blessed
to be used as a fellowship in this historic event!
We are
excited to be alive and in the flow of God’s Spirit in this hour, we believe the best days of the church are now and
are increasing!
We
cry out for Your Restoration Lord Jesus!
